Dolly zoom in AI video

A shot to try: Close-up on @Mara as she reads the name on the letter; the camera tracks back while the lens pushes in; the room behind her seems to fall away. Ambient: a single held note.
What a dolly zoom does
Two things happen at once, in opposite directions: the camera moves away and the lens zooms in. The person does not change size, but the background stretches or compresses behind them, which reads as a sudden loss of footing. Hitchcock made it famous; films since use it for the second a character understands something terrible.
When to use it
- The shock: a name on a page, a face in a crowd, a sentence that changes everything.
- The realisation: the character connects two facts.
- Freezing: the moment someone stops moving because they have understood.
Use it once or twice in a film. Used every episode it stops meaning anything.
How it works here
SceneMixer has eight special camera moves that the storyboard applies at matching story moments; the dolly zoom is for shock and realisation. Give it a shot of at least 3.5 seconds, a single person in frame, and a line or a held beat to land on. Ordinary camera moves (push-in, pan, track) are written into the shot in plain words. All eight special moves · How to write camera movement.
Mistakes
- Two people in frame. The effect needs one clear subject.
- A shot that is too short. Under 3.5 seconds there is no room for the move.
- Using it as decoration. It should answer a story beat.
Make it in SceneMixer, start to finish
- Script: paste your own on Upload Script, or write the brief above in AI Create and let it draft the episodes.
- Step 1: Type Short Drama; Scene Style Urban Opulence, Neon Nights; Costume Style Smart Casual, Streetwear; Visual Style Digital HD, Shot on Film; Target Region; dialogue language; 9:16 Portrait. Then read the script.
- Step 2: Draw the one person whose shock you are filming and the one room she is in. The first 15 setup images on an account are free.
- Storyboard: generate episode 1 first (free on your first drama) and read it before you render anything. One place per segment.
- Video: render on the default tier at 10 credits a second, fix single shots instead of whole episodes, then put the episode together and post.
