Can AI make movies?

Test it on one scene: A mother and her teenage son at a kitchen table the night before he leaves for university; one room, two people, ten lines, and nobody says ‘I'll miss you’.
What making a movie means here
- Script. Written with AI or pasted from your own.
- Read. The script becomes episodes, a cast, places and props.
- Draw once. Every character, place and prop gets a reference image; every shot is made from them.
- Storyboard. Numbered shots with seconds, camera language, dialogue and ambient sound, which you can read and rewrite before anything is rendered.
- Render and join. Segments are generated, then put together; the episode is scored.

What the software holds for you
| Thing | How it is held |
|---|---|
| Faces and clothes | Drawn once on a character sheet; every shot is generated from it, with costume changes as named states |
| Rooms | A scene image is drawn once; where the account and the space allow it, it is turned into a 360° room, measured, and the cast is placed before the storyboard is written |
| Voices | Each character has a voice; lines are spoken by the person whose lips move |
| Sound | Ambience written into each shot, and a score chosen for the episode and mixed under the voices |
| Order | The episode is a timeline of segments you can retake one at a time |

What it does not do
- One unbroken take longer than a segment. The longest a segment can be is 30 seconds, and only on tiers that go that far; a longer shot is two segments.
- A performance. It holds a cast and a room, not an actor's choices. You write the acting into the shot, as a tone beside the line: (low, steady).
- Readable on-screen text. Signs, menus and interface text are not drawn reliably; titles go in your edit.
- Real people and franchises. Recognisable public figures and franchise characters are refused by the IP check.
- Your own song or recording. It takes text, up to four ad photos, or a video, and no audio. What you can feed in.
Sizes: from a trailer to a feature
| What you make | Seconds | Segments (15 s / 30 s) | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| A trailer | 60 | 4 / 2 | Film, or a one-episode project |
| A short drama episode | up to 240 | 16 / 8 | Short Drama |
| A TV series episode | up to 300 | 20 / 10 | TV Series |
| A 10-minute short | 600 | 40 / 20 | Film, read in sequences |
| A 90-minute feature | 5,400 | 360 / 180 | Film, read in sequences |
Video is 10 credits a second on the default tier, and joining an episode is 1 credit a second, so a film costs its seconds times that rate plus the retakes you choose to make: ten minutes is 600 of those seconds, a feature is 5,400. Can AI make a full-length movie yet? · How hard is it?.
Can it direct? Can it make a TV show?
Direct. The storyboard drafts numbered shots from your script, and you can rewrite any of them in plain words: the shot size, the move, who is in frame, how long it lasts. Eight special camera moves (a dolly zoom for a shock, a push in to an eye when someone sees something that shakes them, a 90° tilt as someone falls) are applied at matching story moments. The eight special moves.
A TV show. Set the type to TV Series: episodes of up to 300 seconds with the same cast, made in order. How to make a TV series with AI · AI TV series creator.
A sensible first project

Make it in SceneMixer, start to finish
- Script: paste your own on Upload Script, or write the brief above in AI Create and let it draft the episodes.
- Step 1: Type Film; Scene Style Pastoral Healing, American Small Town; Costume Style Soft Everyday; Visual Style Digital HD, Soft Glow; Target Region; dialogue language; 16:9 Landscape. Then read the script.
- Step 2: Draw the mother and the son and the one kitchen; a scene with two people and one room is the cheapest honest test. The first 15 setup images on an account are free.
- Storyboard: generate episode 1 first (free on your first drama) and read it before you render anything. One place per segment.
- Video: render on the default tier at 10 credits a second, fix single shots instead of whole episodes, then put the episode together and post.
