Grok Imagine Image 2.0 for character sheets and cover posters

Quick answer: On SceneMixer, Grok Imagine Image 2.0 is an image tier: it draws the character, location and prop sheets your series is matched to, their state images, and the promo cover posters, for 35 credits per image (about $0.22 at the lowest credit price). It draws at about 2K. It is xAI’s second-generation image model, released in August 2026, and coverage of it stresses lettering — which makes it a natural pick for a cover with the title painted in. xAI caps prompt length, so a very long description is shortened at a sentence end on this tier. The free sheets are not drawn here; they stay on the default model.

What Grok Imagine Image 2.0 is

Grok Imagine Image 2.0 is xAI’s second image model. It became the quality mode of Grok Imagine in August 2026 and reached developers through xAI’s image API shortly after. Coverage of the launch highlights sharper text rendering, region-level editing and multi-image references. The sources are at the end of this page.

On SceneMixer it is one of ten image tiers. You do not need a Grok or X account; it is billed in SceneMixer credits. It draws pictures only — this page is about the image model, not Grok Imagine’s video mode, which SceneMixer does not offer.

What it draws here

Everything an image tier draws on SceneMixer: a full-length casting photo of each character on white, each location as an empty plate, each prop alone, a state image for every second look, and the three poster candidates of a promo cover. Video shots are made on the video tiers, which use those images as references.

Where to switch it on

Settings → Model Preferences → Image Model, then pick Grok Imagine Image 2.0. From then on every new image is drawn on it: the character, location and prop sheets in step 2, regenerations, state images, and the promo cover posters. Images already drawn keep their pixels; switching never redraws anything. You can switch per group — leads on one tier, background places on another — and switch back.

  1. Settings, from the account menu.
  2. Model Preferences → Image Model.
  3. Pick Grok Imagine Image 2.0; the price per image is next to it.
  4. Generate or regenerate in step 2, or open Cover art in step 2 to make a cover.

Where it fits best

  • Cover posters. The model paints the title into the poster. A model known for lettering is the obvious tier to try first; check the spelling before you pick a candidate either way.
  • Leads with a strong graphic look — an anime or comic-style series, a costume with lettering or insignia on it.
  • Not the first pick for a large supporting cast on a budget: the default tier is a fraction of the price and carries the free sheets.

Long descriptions

xAI limits how long a prompt can be (about 8,000 characters). Character descriptions on this site can be long, and the image request also carries the site’s own framing for a sheet. When the whole request would go over, this tier shortens the description at the end of a sentence, so the last details are the ones dropped. Put identity first — face, the one anchor feature, build — and decoration last, which is good practice on every tier anyway.

Content checks and refusals

Every description is checked by the site before anything is drawn; a flagged description is not charged. On top of that, xAI runs its own filter, and when it refuses a picture the job fails and is refunded. The site’s content rules are the same on every tier: there is no tier with looser rules. See content rules and checks.

What it costs

This tier is not covered by the free sheets. Every account’s 15 free sheets are drawn on the default image model, Qwen-Image 3.0, only. On Grok Imagine Image 2.0 each sheet costs 35 credits from the first one (about $0.22 at the lowest credit price), and the price is printed on the button before you generate. Switch back to the default and whatever free sheets you have left are still there. A generation that is refused is not charged, and most failures are refunded automatically; a few kinds are held until support checks them. Regenerating a sheet is a new charge; the old image stays until you replace it.

Common errors

What you may meet on this tier:

What you seeUsual causeWhat to do
“Blocked by content safety rules — edit the script or description and retry.”A word or phrase in the description tripped the site’s check, or the model maker’s own filter refused the pictureEdit the description and generate again; nothing was charged
“The generation service hit a temporary problem. You weren’t charged — feel free to try again.”The model was saturated; the site kept the job queued for a while before giving upGenerate again in a few minutes, or switch tier
A sheet that ignores part of the descriptionToo many details competing in one descriptionPut identity details first; trim decoration
Generate All stops partwayBalance ran out; the remaining sheets were not chargedTop up, then generate the rest
Credits held for reviewA rare failure where the model may already have been paid for the attemptNothing to do; support checks it and releases or refunds — see credits held for review
