A Grok Imagine Alternative for AI Drama Series
Updated October 23, 2026

Clips from a prompt, or a series from a script
xAI documents Grok Imagine video as text-to-video and image-to-video with configurable duration, aspect ratio and resolution, plus reference-to-video, editing and extension1. SceneMixer keeps references inside the project instead of in each request: every character, location and prop has one sheet, and every segment that needs it uses it.
At a glance
| Grok Imagine | SceneMixer | |
|---|---|---|
| Built around | Video generation in xAI's Grok, with an API for developers1 | One series project: script → cast → episode outline → storyboard per episode → video per segment → one file per episode |
| Clip length | Configurable duration up to 15 seconds; extension continues a video from its last frame1 | Up to 30 seconds per segment on some tiers; an episode is as many segments as its storyboard needs |
| References | Up to 14 reference images and 3 voice references on grok-imagine-video-1.51 | The cast is generated once as reference sheets and attached to every segment a character appears in; paid plans can upload their own image instead |
| Editing | Edit an existing video with a text prompt1 | Edit one segment's storyboard text and regenerate it; trim, re-dub or AI-edit a finished clip |
| Price | Per second, by duration and resolution; rates on xAI's pricing page, not on the documentation page (checked October 20, 2026)1 | Credit packs from $1.49; Pro plan $7.99/month with 700 credits. New accounts get 50 free credits and 15 free reference images. |
Models differ between platforms, so compare a test clip of your own scene, not only the price per second.
What a fixed cast looks like
Stay with Grok Imagine if…
- You already use Grok and want video in the same place1.
- You build on an API with references, editing and extension in each request1.
- You make one-off clips up to 15 seconds1.
SceneMixer fits if…
- You are telling a story in episodes. One read of the script returns the cast, locations, props and an episode-by-episode outline with an end-of-episode hook; each episode gets its own storyboard. Upload a script and read it.
- The same faces must hold from shot to shot. Reference sheets ride along with every segment, linked by id rather than by name. How consistency works.
- Your cast should speak a particular language. Pick it in step 1 and the lines are performed in that language as the shot renders — no dubbing pass. Native dialogue vs dubbing.
- You would rather pay as you go. Packs start at $1.49 and plan credits stay in your balance. Do credits expire?
- You want commercial rights from the first credit. Our terms give you ownership of the results, including commercial use, on free allowances too.

Moving a story over
- Bring the story — a script, a document, or one sentence for AI Create.
- Set the project in step 1: Type (Short Drama, TV Series or Film), aspect ratio, dialogue language and target region.
- Reuse character art you own. On a paid plan, upload it in place of a generated sheet; otherwise generate sheets — the first 15 on an account are free.
- Draft cheaply, finish the keepers. Generate at the lowest tier, then regenerate only the segments that will be seen most at a higher resolution. Draft at 480P, finish at 1080P.
Frequently asked questions
Is SceneMixer a Grok Imagine alternative?
For a drama in episodes with a fixed cast and spoken dialogue, yes. For single clips inside Grok, or video through xAI's API, Grok Imagine is built for that.
How long can a Grok Imagine video be?
xAI's documentation, checked October 20, 2026, says video generation supports configurable duration up to 15 seconds, and extension continues a video from its last frame.
Is Grok Imagine free?
xAI's video documentation does not state free-tier limits (checked October 20, 2026). Check Grok's own plans page for what your account includes.
How is Grok Imagine video priced?
Per second; xAI's documentation says both duration and resolution affect the total and points to its pricing page for rates (checked October 20, 2026).
Can SceneMixer keep the same character across episodes?
Yes. Each character is drawn once as a reference sheet and attached to every segment they appear in, across every episode. How consistency works.
Can I use SceneMixer results commercially?
Yes. Our terms give you ownership of the results, including commercial use, on free allowances too.
