Delete a character, scene or prop from your project

Want a different look rather than no character? Regenerate one sheet.
When deleting is the right move
- The reading created someone who is only a passer-by — “the waiter”, “a guard” — and you would rather they be background people. See background people in a scene.
- The same place was read twice under two names, and you only want one set.
- A prop that is only mentioned, never seen, got its own card.
- A character was cut from the story and you have already removed their lines.
If you only dislike how someone looks, do not delete them: edit the description and regenerate the image. Their lines, voice and appearances stay connected.
Step by step
- Open the project and go to step 2. Pick the Characters, Scenes or Items tab.
- Open the card you want to remove.
- Press Delete at the bottom left of the card (it is red).
- Read the confirmation and press Delete again. The card closes and the list updates.
The confirmation reads: It won’t get images or appear in videos anymore, and it’s removed from this list. Storyboards already generated stay as they are. Re-reading the script will create it again. Credits already spent on its images aren’t refunded.
When the character is still in the story
If the character still has dialogue or appears in the storyboard, you see a different dialog first: “Name” is still in the story, with the counts — how many lines of dialogue, how many episodes they appear in, how many generated storyboard segments they are on screen in.
Deleting then removes the character from the list, along with their character image and voice, but their lines and appearances stay in the story. They will still appear in videos, just with no character image or voice to follow, so their look and voice may not match from clip to clip. You can press Keep character, or Delete anyway.
To take a character out of the story properly, remove their lines and mentions from the storyboard first — editing the storyboard — then delete the card.
What changes and what does not
| After deleting | |
|---|---|
| Its card in step 2 | Gone from the list |
| New images (sheets, state images) | None; nothing can be generated for it |
| New videos | It is not attached as a reference |
| Storyboards already generated | Unchanged; the text is not rewritten |
| Videos already made | Unchanged |
| Credits spent on its images | Not refunded |
| Free sheets it used | Not returned to the allowance |
| Re-reading the script | Creates it again, by name |
When you cannot delete yet
- Something here is still generating or syncing — delete it once that finishes. An image is being drawn for it, the episode’s storyboard is being written, or the script is being read. Wait for it to finish; nothing is cancelled for you.
- In an ad project, the product itself cannot be deleted; other cast and places can.
There is no undo
A deleted character, scene or item cannot be restored from the project. If you might want its image again, download it before you delete. Re-reading the script brings the card back by name, but as a new card: its image has to be generated again.
If the character was on your promo cover, the cover you already have stays; the next time you make one, you will be asked to pick the cover characters again.
FAQ
How do I delete a character in SceneMixer?
Step 2, open the character's card, press the red Delete at the bottom left, and confirm.
Does deleting a character remove their lines?
No. Storyboards already generated are not rewritten. If the character still has lines, the site warns you and shows how many before you delete.
Do I get credits back?
No. Credits spent on the deleted item's images are not refunded, and free sheets it used are not returned.
Does deleting cost anything?
No. Deleting is free.
Can I undo a delete?
No. Download the image first if you may want it. Re-reading the script creates the card again by name, without its old image.
Why can't I delete it right now?
Something for it is still generating or syncing, such as its image or the episode's storyboard. Delete it once that finishes.
Will a deleted character still appear in my videos?
Videos already made are unchanged. In new videos, a character who still has lines or appearances in the storyboard can still appear, but without their image or voice to follow.
Can I delete a location that the episode uses?
Yes. Shots set there keep their storyboard text, but new videos get no location image for them; generate those segments after giving the shots another location.
Tidy up your cast before you generate
Delete the passers-by the reading picked up, keep the cards that matter, and spend your images on them.
