AI Video Editing Software: What Happens Where

Where the editing happens
The editor is one page with three working areas. On the left, the characters and places the episode uses. In the middle, the storyboard text of the segment you selected, shot by shot with durations. On the right, the player, with the edit controls under it, and along the bottom a timeline of the episode’s segments. On a phone the same things stack into views you swipe between. Nothing is installed, and the work runs on servers, which is also why a generation carries on if you close the tab. A tour of the episode editor · Cloud or local, and where your files go.
Because the editing is attached to generated segments, its unit is the segment, a take of 15 or 30 seconds, not the frame on an open timeline. That is the difference between this and timeline software, and the next section lists it job by job.
Timeline software jobs, one by one
| A job in timeline software | Here | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cut the start or end of a clip | Trim with Keep | Cut to the exact frame, picture and sound together; 5 credits; the original stays |
| Remove a moment from the middle | Trim with Remove | Same price. A segment keeps one trimmed version, so a second trim is made from the trimmed picture |
| Replace a line of dialogue | Redub | Lip sync keeps the picture; Re-perform acts the clip again |
| Swap in a different take | Version history | Free. The active take plays, downloads, shares and joins |
| Change a colour, the weather or the time of day of a thing in the shot | AI visuals | One of eight changes, not a free-text box |
| Raise the resolution | Enhance | One step up on the same take |
| Add captions | Subtitles | Burned in or as an SRT file; the words are your script’s |
| Colour grading, LUTs, keyframed effects | Not offered | The look is set by the visual, scene and costume styles before generation |
| Titles and lower thirds over footage | Not offered | Video models do not write legible text. An ad has an end card for the name and the call to action |
| Transitions and effects between clips | Not offered | Cuts inside a segment are written into the storyboard text; segments are joined as they are |
| Your own clips on the timeline | Not offered | An uploaded video can start a remake, which reads it and builds a new storyboard but never hands your footage to the video model |
Read down the right-hand column and the idea is clear. The editing is about repairing generated clips cheaply and exactly; the creative finishing that depends on your own footage, typography or grade belongs to software built for it, and the hand-off below is how you get there. Video editor with AI puts the fixes in price order.
The hand-off sheet: what to download for what
| You want to | Download | How | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Finish a whole episode in another editor | The exported episode | Export episode once every segment is done, then Download in Exports | The segments are joined without re-encoding when they all came from the same tier. Mix tiers and the join re-encodes onto one canvas, which costs a generation of quality |
| Re-time or re-order clips yourself | The individual segments | Download under the player, or Assets → Videos for every clip across projects | It is the active take that downloads, so set your versions first |
| Use your own music | The episode or clip without the score | Turn the Music switch off before downloading | With it off, a clip that has the episode’s score as its own track downloads without it, and an exported episode gives the dialogue-enhanced version without music |
| Style the captions yourself | The episode plus the caption file | Tick Add subtitles on export, then Download SRT | The SRT is plain text with times, with your script’s words. Accounts that have bought credits or a plan only |
| Have captions already on the picture | The burned-in version | Download with subtitles | They follow the Music switch: with it on you get the version with the episode’s score |
| Use the pictures | Character, scene and item images | Assets, any tab, Download | Sheets are 9:16 for characters and 16:9 for places and props, whatever the project’s shape |
| Rework the text elsewhere | The storyboard text | Copy it out | Check the links after you paste it back in |
Download always gives the original, the full-quality file. The clip you see playing on the page is a lighter copy of the same picture made for quick streaming, so judge sharpness only after you have downloaded. Download: the original vs the play version.
What travels with the file
The AI badge. A free account’s videos carry a small badge in the corner and a line of AI-generated-content information in the file. The badge is part of the picture, not an overlay, so it survives download, re-upload and re-encoding. On a paid plan neither is added by default, and you can switch them on. A link shared through the site always shows the label. Decide this before you generate, because it is applied at delivery: switching it later only affects videos you generate afterwards. Why shared videos carry the badge.
Resolution. It comes from the tier you generated on, shown in the picker beside the price, 480P, 720P or 1080P for the Wan family. Check frame rate, codec and audio layout in your editor’s file properties, because they are not promised on any page. What comes out.
Length. The export is priced by the finished length of each active take, so a trimmed segment is cheaper to join. A shared page is public and indexable, so treat a share link as publishing, not as a private hand-off; to move a file to one person, download it. Compositing and sharing an episode.
A round trip that works
- Fix inside first. Repairs on a generated clip are cheapest and most exact here: trim, redub, one picture change, or a text edit and a regeneration.
- Settle every segment on one tier if you will export the episode, so the join copies the streams instead of re-encoding.
- Decide on music and captions and set the Music and Subtitles switches to match what the other editor will add.
- Export, download, and finish outside: grade, titles, your own music, other clips.
There is no way back in. Nothing in the editor takes an edited file back as a segment, so keep the downloaded original of anything you care about and treat the outside edit as the last step.
FAQ
Is it AI video editing software I download?
No. The editing is a web page and the work runs on servers. You can use it from a computer or a phone, and you download only the files you want to keep.
Is there a timeline like in video editing software?
There is a timeline of an episode’s segments, not a frame-level editing timeline. You edit one segment at a time. For frame-accurate cuts between clips, export and use an editor built for it.
Can I add my own footage to the video?
Not into an episode. An uploaded video can start a remake, which reads it and builds a new storyboard, but your footage is not used as a clip.
What file do I get when I download?
The original, full-quality file of the active take, for a segment or for an exported episode. The page plays a lighter copy.
How do I get the video without music?
Turn the Music switch off before you download. A clip that has the episode’s score as its own track then downloads without it, and an exported episode gives the version without music.
Can I download subtitles as a separate file?
Yes, as an SRT, if the account has bought credits or a plan at least once. Tick Add subtitles when you export the episode.
Will the badge be on a file I take to another editor?
On a free account, yes, burned into the picture. On a paid plan it is off by default. It is applied when the video is generated.
Can I bring my edited video back into SceneMixer?
Not as a segment. Finish the outside edit last.
Fix it here, finish it there
Cheap exact repairs inside; grade, titles and music outside.
