You Chose Long Take 30s, but Some Segments Are Short: Why, and How to Lengthen One

Quick answer: Long take 30s sets the ceiling, not the length. The storyboard ends a segment where the scene turns, so a segment with two short shots may run only a few seconds while the next runs close to thirty. A segment’s length is the sum of its shots’ seconds. To lengthen one, edit it: give its shots more seconds, or add a shot or a line, up to the ceiling. Editing is free. Do not re-parse the episode to get longer segments: re-parsing deletes its storyboard and videos, charges the storyboard again, and does not promise longer segments.

Open a short segment, change one shot from 3 seconds to 6, and watch the total on the card change before you generate anything.

Why a segment can be short

An episode is cut into segments by the story: a segment holds one stretch of the scene, and a new one starts where the action or the place changes. Standard 15s and Long take 30s, chosen at the top of step 3 before you parse an episode’s storyboard, set how long a segment may become, not how long it must be. Short dialogue exchanges and quick inserts make short segments; long scenes with speeches make long ones.

The episode timeline: every segment as a card with its thumbnail and duration
Each card on the timeline is one segment; its length is the sum of its shots, whatever the episode's segment length.

How long a segment is

Each shot line starts with its number and its seconds, and the segment is the sum of them. The editor shows the total, turns it red when it goes over the ceiling, and updates the price on the card as you edit. Shot seconds and timing.

Lengthening one segment

Then generate that segment. Its old clip, if it had one, stays in Version History. Changing segment duration.

Fewer, longer segments for a whole episode

If you want the whole episode in long takes, choose Long take 30s before you parse its storyboard, and generate it on a tier that can render thirty seconds; the model selector greys out the ones that cannot. Switching an episode that is already parsed means Re-parse, which replaces its storyboard and deletes its videos. 15-second or 30-second segments.

Two short segments into one

There is no merge button. Copy the shots of the second segment into the first, adjust the seconds so the total stays under the ceiling, save, and delete the second segment. Insert or delete a segment.

FAQ

Will re-parsing the storyboard make segments longer?

Not reliably, and it deletes the episode's videos and charges the storyboard again. Edit the short segment instead.

Why does a shot with dialogue get more seconds?

A line needs time to be said. If you shorten that shot, the line may be rushed or cut.

Is a longer segment more expensive?

Video is priced per second, so a longer segment costs more to generate. The card shows the price before you press.

Can I join two segments?

There is no merge button. Move the shots into one segment and delete the other.

Lengthen the one that is short

Edit its shots up to the ceiling, then generate just that segment.
