The counts below come from one collection pass over 2026 posts, in which every post was rule-matched for product or self-promotion signals — call those promo-mentioning posts — and each board's removals were split into platform and moderator actions versus author deletions. Author deletions are not counted as removals anywhere in this table, because taking your own post down is not the board rejecting it. The final row is the pooled figure for every board in the collection, not the sum of the rows above:
| Board | Promo posts | Removed | Removed share |
|---|---|---|---|
| r/videography | 280 | 170 | 61% |
| r/aivideo | 120 | 75 | 61% |
| r/CShortDramas | 65 | 28 | 43% |
| r/generativeAI | 1,000 | 280 | 27% |
| r/AIVideos_SFW | 130 | 15 | 12% |
| r/aivideos | 360 | 40 | 11% |
| r/AIAssisted | 380 | 32 | 9% |
| r/Filmmakers | 990 | 91 | 9% |
| r/aifilmmaking | 140 | 11 | 8% |
| All boards pooled | 5,500 | 990 | 18% |
Two readings matter. First, the spread: the same kind of post that survives at one board gets removed at another, so "is the board friendly" beats "is my post promotional" as a question. Second, the baseline: in the same pass, posts that mentioned no product at all were removed at 22% — slightly above the pooled promo rate for product-mentioning posts. Product mentions do not, by themselves, raise your removal odds; the board and the format do.
The board rules captured in the corpus read like the difference between the top and bottom of the table. The showcase board that removes most product mentions publishes one of the most specific rule sets — part of it, verbatim:
must be longer than 10 seconds, no loops, only 1 video submission per day
self promotion and links only allowed in the comments of your own video
Both lines come from the corpus capture of a video-sharing board's submission guidelines, and together they explain its removal rate: promotion is permitted, but only in a prescribed shape — the title has to carry a name for the video and the tool used, the post has to be a real video, and the link lives in your own comment. Boards that remove less tend to ask for different things. The assisted-work board simply requires a heads-up before any self-promotion, in its own words:
Before you post any self-promotional material, please reach out to the mod, otherwise it will be considered spam
The professional video board routes feedback through a standing thread rather than the feed:
If you wish to post a video you have made for feedback or comments, please use the sticky feedback thread or it will be removed.
None of these are dress codes — they are format contracts.
Read the surviving product-mentioning posts across the nine boards and the same three shapes keep appearing. The first is the build log: a creator documents a tool or a workflow they are making, shows the result, and answers questions in the comments. A long-running example on a showcase board is a film-crew beta devlog whose title names the video and the tool, with the promotional material kept to the comment section, per the rule quoted above. The second is the work itself, posted generously: a long cut with a real write-up underneath. A film thread on the playback-first board opens its post with the premise rather than the pitch —
What if the Roman Empire never fell and Earth was no longer enough?
— and then summarizes the film. That post is a release thread on a general film board, the kind of post the board's light rule set was designed to allow. The third shape is the data drop: a comparison table, a resource list, a real finding. The corpus's most-cited surviving self-promotions on the general AI board are exactly that — a hard table of what things cost, and a tool stack someone pruned down to what they kept, posted as a list with the reasoning attached.
Two habits cut across all three shapes. Link inside a body that stands on its own — a post whose entire value is a link dies on every board, and a short link-only post dies fastest on the video-only board, where the removal rate for low-information posts is the visible cost. And use the flair: several boards reject unflaired posts automatically, and the scary-content flair exists for a reason on the biggest showcase board.
When the thing you are posting is a SceneMixer output rather than a discussion, there are two ways to put it on a board, and they have different fingerprints. Downloading the episode gives you the master file — full quality, with the badge baked in unless a membership turned it off — and uploading the file natively is the shape boards that distrust external links prefer. Sharing gives a link instead: a real page with the video and a short explanation of how it was made, which the share guide covers in full. Know what that page is before you paste it: it is public and indexable by search engines, it has no expiry, and a video shared through it always shows the AI label, even on a paid plan. Treat a share link as publishing, not as a private hand-off — which is also the right mental model for the boards themselves, where the same link may be judged as a deliverable or as a redirect depending on the rules. The posting guide compares the platforms beyond Reddit.

One more line from the corpus is worth carrying into any board: the rules quoted above exist because moderators have seen the alternative. Where a board states its format for product posts, using that format is not compliance theater — it is the difference between the boards at the top of the survival table and the ones at the bottom.
It varies by board rather than by style. The lowest removal shares in this corpus are on r/aifilmmaking, r/Filmmakers, r/AIAssisted and r/aivideos — all at or below the pooled rate — and the highest are on r/videography and r/aivideo, where the submission rules leave less room.
It depends on the board. Some boards require promotion to live in the comments of your own video post; others run feedback through a sticky thread. Link inside a self-contained post rather than as the post itself.
No. In the same corpus, posts that mention no product were removed at 22% — above the pooled rate for product-mentioning posts in the table. The board matters more than the mention.
A share link opens a public, indexable page with the video and how it was made, and it carries the AI label even on a paid plan. On boards that distrust external links, download the file and upload it natively instead.
The counts and the method behind the table are documented on the method note; the same collection powers what the corpus says about making money and the audience side of it. If you are posting ads rather than shows, the format that survives feedback threads best is the one in how a UGC-style ad is built.
Render the episode, download the master, and post work that stands on its own — with the format rules on this page as your checklist.
