A Katalist Alternative for Script to Storyboard to Video

Updated November 1, 2026

Quick answer: Katalist is “an AI creative studio for performance teams”: it breaks a script into shots, generates a storyboard with consistent characters and scenes, turns shots into video, and can swap your product into a winning creative. SceneMixer runs the same script-to-storyboard-to-video road for drama: a cast drawn once, an episode outline, a storyboard per episode, video segment by segment with the dialogue performed. Choose Katalist for ad creative at agency volume, with Premiere Pro export and product swaps; choose SceneMixer for a story told in episodes.

Katalist sizes its plans in image and video credits: Essential lists 200 image credits and 700 video credits a month with 5 projects and 1 custom character; Pro 700 and 1,500 with 20 projects and 10 custom characters2. SceneMixer has no project cap and no character cap; the first reference images on an account are free and the rest are priced per image.

Stay with Katalist if…

  • You make ad creative for clients and need product swaps, variants and Premiere Pro export1.
  • You want to pick the video model per shot from a listed set2.

SceneMixer fits if…

  • You are telling a story in episodes. One read of the script returns the cast, locations, props and an episode-by-episode outline with an end-of-episode hook; each episode gets its own storyboard. Upload a script and read it.
  • The same faces must hold from shot to shot. Reference sheets ride along with every segment, linked by id rather than by name. How consistency works.
  • Your cast should speak a particular language. Pick it in step 1 and the lines are performed in that language as the shot renders — no dubbing pass. Native dialogue vs dubbing.
  • You would rather pay as you go. Packs start at $1.49 and plan credits stay in your balance. Do credits expire?
  • You want commercial rights from the first credit. Our terms give you ownership of the results, including commercial use, on free allowances too.

Moving a story over

  1. Bring the screenplay as written — scene headings and character cues are read.
  2. Set the project in step 1: Type (Short Drama, TV Series or Film), aspect ratio, dialogue language and target region.
  3. Reuse character art you own. On a paid plan, upload it in place of a generated sheet; otherwise generate sheets — the first 15 on an account are free.
  4. Draft cheaply, finish the keepers. Generate at the lowest tier, then regenerate only the segments that will be seen most at a higher resolution. Draft at 480P, finish at 1080P.
A SceneMixer storyboard segment: location, time and weather fields, then numbered shots with durations, asset chips and spoken lines
One storyboard segment: where and when, then numbered shots with durations, the cast in each shot and the spoken lines. Edit the text, then regenerate just that segment.
