A Boords Alternative for AI Storyboard to Video

Updated November 2, 2026

Quick answer: Boords is pre-production software for video teams: scripts, storyboards and timed animatics, shared with clients through one link so they can comment on the exact frame and sign off, with exports to Premiere, Resolve and After Effects. SceneMixer starts from the same storyboard but goes on to make the video: a script becomes an episode outline, a cast drawn once, a storyboard per episode, and each segment rendered with characters performing their lines on screen in 15 languages. Choose Boords to plan and get a shoot or an edit approved; choose SceneMixer when the storyboard itself should become the finished episode.

A board to approve, or a board to render

Boords describes its job as getting “every video signed off before production starts”, with unlimited clients reviewing and commenting without an account on every plan1. In SceneMixer there is no handoff to a production crew: the storyboard is the input to the video model.

Stay with Boords if…

  • You need clients to review and sign off a board — comments on the exact frame and an Approved version12.
  • You are planning a live-action shoot or an edit in another tool — animatic export to Premiere, Resolve or After Effects2.
  • You work in an agency team — plans for up to 30 users and an enterprise tier with SSO1.
  • You want storyboards and scripts without generating video — unlimited storyboards on paid plans1.

SceneMixer fits if…

  • You are telling a story in episodes. One read of the script returns the cast, locations, props and an episode-by-episode outline with an end-of-episode hook; each episode gets its own storyboard. Upload a script and read it.
  • The same faces must hold from shot to shot. Reference sheets ride along with every segment, linked by id rather than by name. How consistency works.
  • Your cast should speak a particular language. Pick it in step 1 and the lines are performed in that language as the shot renders — no dubbing pass. Native dialogue vs dubbing.
  • You would rather pay as you go. Packs start at $1.49 and plan credits stay in your balance. Do credits expire?
  • You want commercial rights from the first credit. Our terms give you ownership of the results, including commercial use, on free allowances too.
  • You want the storyboard to become the video. Each storyboard segment is rendered in place instead of exported to another tool. AI storyboard generator

Moving a story over

  1. Bring the script — paste it or upload .txt, .docx or .md; frame descriptions you wrote can become shots in the storyboard.
  2. Set the project in step 1: Type (Short Drama, TV Series or Film), aspect ratio, dialogue language and target region.
  3. Reuse character art you own. On a paid plan, upload it in place of a generated sheet; otherwise generate sheets — the first 15 on an account are free.
  4. Draft cheaply, finish the keepers. Generate at the lowest tier, then regenerate only the segments that will be seen most at a higher resolution. Draft at 480P, finish at 1080P.
A SceneMixer storyboard segment: location, time and weather fields, then numbered shots with durations, asset chips and spoken lines
One storyboard segment: where and when, then numbered shots with durations, the cast in each shot and the spoken lines. Edit the text, then regenerate just that segment.
