A Canva AI Video Alternative for Drama Series

Updated November 2, 2026

Quick answer: Canva is a design suite, and its AI video generator, Create a Video Clip, makes a 16:9 video of up to eight seconds from text with synchronized audio including dialogue and sound effects, to drop into a design; it also offers talking-head avatars in over 40 languages. SceneMixer makes a whole drama from a script: an episode outline, a cast drawn once, a storyboard per episode and video segment by segment, with characters performing their lines on screen in 15 languages. Choose Canva for clips and videos inside presentations, social posts and brand templates; choose SceneMixer for a series told in episodes.

A clip in a design, or an episode in a series

Canva describes Create a Video Clip as powered by Google's Veo-3, one video per prompt, which you then add to a Canva design for further customization2. SceneMixer is organised the other way round: the series comes first, and each clip is a segment of a storyboard.

Stay with Canva if…

  • You design more than video — presentations, social posts, print and brand templates in one place1.
  • You need an eight-second clip inside a design — generate it and add it straight to the page you are building2.
  • You want a presenter in over 40 languages from a photo or an available avatar2.
  • You work in a team with brand controls — its plans list collaboration and brand management1.

SceneMixer fits if…

  • You are telling a story in episodes. One read of the script returns the cast, locations, props and an episode-by-episode outline with an end-of-episode hook; each episode gets its own storyboard. Upload a script and read it.
  • The same faces must hold from shot to shot. Reference sheets ride along with every segment, linked by id rather than by name. How consistency works.
  • Your cast should speak a particular language. Pick it in step 1 and the lines are performed in that language as the shot renders — no dubbing pass. Native dialogue vs dubbing.
  • You would rather pay as you go. Packs start at $1.49 and plan credits stay in your balance. Do credits expire?
  • You want commercial rights from the first credit. Our terms give you ownership of the results, including commercial use, on free allowances too.

Moving a story over

  1. Bring the script — paste it or upload .txt, .docx or .md; the prompts you wrote for single clips can become shots in the storyboard.
  2. Set the project in step 1: Type (Short Drama, TV Series or Film), aspect ratio, dialogue language and target region.
  3. Reuse character art you own. On a paid plan, upload it in place of a generated sheet; otherwise generate sheets — the first 15 on an account are free.
  4. Draft cheaply, finish the keepers. Generate at the lowest tier, then regenerate only the segments that will be seen most at a higher resolution. Draft at 480P, finish at 1080P.
