AI Video Generator Free: Seven Hidden Costs to Check Before You Start

Try it: open the pricing, terms and sign-up pages of any free generator you are considering and look for the answer to each of the seven questions below. Whatever you cannot find in five minutes is the cost you will meet later.
1. A mark on the picture
Ask: is there a mark, where is it, does it survive a download, and does it appear on shared copies too? Test: make the shortest clip the tool allows, download it, and play the file full screen on a phone. A mark that only shows in the web player is a different thing from one burned into the file.
Here: a free account’s videos carry a small SceneMixer AIGC badge in the bottom-right corner and a line of AI-generated-content metadata in the file. The badge is part of the picture, so it survives a download and a re-upload. It is not a full-frame watermark. On a paid plan neither is added by default and you can switch them back on. A link shared from SceneMixer always shows the badge, whatever the plan. The AI badge switch · Why shared videos carry the badge.
2. A queue you cannot see the end of
Ask: how many jobs run at once on the free tier, what happens to the rest, and is anything of yours locked while it waits? Test: start four jobs together and read what the fourth one says.
Here: a free account runs 3 generations at once. Any more show Queued, start by themselves in the order you pressed, and hold their credits until they do. That held amount is the quiet cost of a queue: your balance looks lower than it is until the job runs. A paid plan raises the number that run together (5 on Pro, 8 on Studio, 10 on Enterprise, more above that). It does not make one clip faster: a segment takes typically ten to twenty minutes on every plan. Generating many segments at once.
3. A ceiling on length or quality
Ask: what is the longest clip, which resolutions are on the free tier, and is the better setting locked behind a plan? Test: open the quality picker and see which entries are greyed out for your account.
Here: the picker offers the same tiers on every plan, from 480P at 10 credits a second up to a 2K tier, so quality is not locked; it is a budget. The longest segment is 15 seconds on some tiers and 30 seconds on the long-take tiers, and an episode is several segments joined. What a free account really lacks is seconds, not pixels. The only free video is one preview of up to 5 seconds on the lowest tier; every other second is paid.
4. Rights to what you make
Ask: may you use the output commercially, is output from free credits treated the same, is it exclusive to you, and who is responsible if someone objects? Test: find the clause on your content in the terms, not in the marketing.
Here: the terms give you what you generate to the extent the law allows, commercial use included, and output made with free credits counts the same as any other. Two limits come with it: SceneMixer cannot promise it is registrable as a copyrighted work, and it is not exclusive to you. It also does not indemnify you if someone claims infringement, and the model services underneath have their own terms. That is a description of the terms, not legal advice; read them before you build a business on a clip. What you get to keep.
5. Files that disappear
Ask: how long do generated files and uploads stay, what does deleting do, and do share links expire? Test: find the retention line in the privacy policy and the deletion line in the help pages.
Here: what you generate stays in your account until you delete it, and generated sheets and videos never count against upload storage. Deleting removes an item from your account at once; the files behind it are cleaned up about seven days later. Uploaded reference material is kept 30 days by default unless it sits in an active project, according to the privacy policy. A share link has no expiry date, is public to anyone who holds it, and has a daily play limit. Because of that last point, download the original file for anything you cannot afford to lose. The seven-day window · Share links.
6. Credits that expire, or buy almost nothing
Ask: is the free amount one-off or monthly, does it expire, and what does it buy in seconds of video? Test: divide the free balance by the price per second on the button.
Here: a new account gets 50 credits once, and they do not expire; credits you buy and credits a plan grants do not expire either. The same sum, 50 credits divided by 10 credits a second on the default tier, shows how little video that is on its own. So the free part of SceneMixer is built from the cheap steps: 15 setup images for the whole account, the storyboard for episode 1 of your first drama, one batch of three cover posters and the one preview. Used is used: deleting an image and making it again does not give the allowance back. What you get for free · Do credits expire?.
| Step | Free here? | What it costs after the free part |
|---|---|---|
| Reading a script | No | 4 credits per 3,333 English characters |
| Setup images | 15 per account | 7 credits each on the default image tier |
| Storyboard | Episode 1 of your first drama | 1 credit per 100 counted characters of the episode |
| Preview clip | Once, up to 5 seconds | Not repeatable |
| Video | No | 10 credits a second on the default tier, more on higher tiers |
7. A card on file, or something that renews by itself
Ask: does sign-up ask for a card, and does anything renew without you pressing a button? Test: go through sign-up up to the point where it asks for anything other than an email address.
Here: sign-up takes Google, Apple or a six-digit code sent to your email, and it asks for no card. Nothing renews unless you subscribe to a plan, which starts at $7.99 a month; credit packs, from $1.49, are one-off purchases. Cancelling a plan stops the next renewal and keeps the credits already granted. There is no unlimited plan: every plan works in credits. Signing up and logging in · What a paid plan changes.
A five-minute habit that works on any tool
Keep one line per cost in a note and fill it in before you create an account: mark, queue, ceiling, rights, files, credits, card. A tool that answers all seven in plain words is easy to judge, whatever the answers are. A tool that hides three of them has told you where its free tier stops. If you only want to see how far free goes on this site, the free AI video generator page walks that path, and free AI text to video does it from a piece of text.
| Hidden cost | The question | Quick test | On SceneMixer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mark | Is it in the file? | Download and play full screen | Small badge in the corner on free downloads; always on shared links |
| Queue | How many at once? | Start four jobs | 3 at once on free; extras queue and hold credits |
| Ceiling | Longest clip, quality locked? | Open the quality picker | Same tiers on every plan; 15 or 30 seconds per segment |
| Rights | Commercial, exclusive? | Read the content clause | Yours to the extent the law allows, not exclusive, no indemnity |
| Files | How long are they kept? | Read retention and deletion | Kept until you delete; about seven days to clean up; uploads 30 days unless in a project |
| Credits | Do they expire, what do they buy? | Divide balance by price per second | 50 once, no expiry; video is paid from the first second |
| Card | Asked at sign-up? | Stop at the first card field | No card; nothing renews unless you subscribe |
FAQ
Is there a free AI video generator with no limits?
Not one that can be trusted to say so. Every generator pays for each second of video it makes, so the limit shows up as a mark, a queue, a cap or an allowance. SceneMixer gives 50 credits and a set of free setup steps; video is paid from the first second.
Does SceneMixer put a watermark on free videos?
A small SceneMixer AIGC badge in the bottom-right corner, plus an AI-generated-content metadata line in the file. It is not a full-frame watermark. Paid plans are badge-free by default, and shared links always carry it.
Can I use videos made with free credits commercially?
Under the terms, yes: output made with a free allowance is treated like any other, and commercial use is covered to the extent the law allows. It is not exclusive to you and the terms give no indemnity.
Do the free credits expire?
No. The 50 credits on a new account stay until spent, as do purchased and plan credits. Offers such as a first-purchase bonus can have a deadline.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Sign-up uses Google, Apple or an emailed six-digit code. A card or PayPal is only asked for when you buy credits or a plan.
Why is video not free when images are?
Video is the one step whose cost scales with the seconds you make. Text and image steps are one call each; a segment is a call per clip, charged by the second.
Does a paid plan make generation faster?
No. It raises how many of your generations run at once. One segment takes the same time on every plan.
What happens to my files if I stop using the site?
Generated files stay in your account until you delete them. Uploaded reference material outside an active project is kept 30 days by default, per the privacy policy. Download originals of anything you need.
