AI Film Making

The crew you do not have to hire
| On a film set | Who does it | Here, in SceneMixer |
|---|---|---|
| Script and breakdown | Writer, script supervisor | Upload a script, or write the idea in AI Create. The read lists characters, locations, props and an episode or sequence outline you can edit. |
| Casting | Casting director | Every character gets a full-body sheet, drawn once in Step 2. The first 15 setup images on an account are free. |
| Production design | Art department | Each location and prop is drawn once and becomes the set for every shot that uses it. |
| Shot list and storyboard | Director, DP | Numbered shots with seconds, framing, camera move and lines. You can edit any line; editing is free. |
| Shooting | Camera, sound | Each segment renders with dialogue and ambience in one pass, at 10 credits a second on the default tier. |
| Editing | Editor | Segments are joined into one cut at 1 credit a second; each segment keeps a version history so a retake never loses the good take. |
The one job it does not take is yours: deciding what the film is about. A tour of the editor · What you can change in the storyboard.
Set the type to Film before the script is read
Type is chosen once, in Step 1, and it rewrites the rules the read and the shot list are written under. Short Drama assumes a phone and a hook to close every unit; TV Series allows a slower opening and a closing beat; Film has no hard length cap and no forced hook, so a scene can end on a look and a line can land sideways. The film is divided into sequences rather than episodes, and each sequence is billed and rendered on its own, which means you can finish sequence one and watch it before you pay for sequence two. A retake is a shot, not a day
Film making is mostly deciding what to redo. Here a single shot can be rewritten and regenerated without touching the shots on either side, and a clip fix tells you its price and whether you are refunded when it fails before you confirm. Because the cast and the sets are drawn once, a retake keeps the same faces and the same room. What a clip fix costs · Why faces and rooms stay the same.
Use it before the real shoot, too
Many people use AI film making as previs: a rough, fully voiced version of a scene to test pacing, blocking and dialogue before committing a crew or a budget, or as the proof-of-concept that goes with a pitch. Previs and animatics · A pilot or pitch trailer · A short film for a festival.
What it does not replace
- It does not perform: a character's acting is written into the shot, then generated, not captured from an actor.
- It will not use a real person's face or a famous character; the IP check refuses them, whether they arrive in text or in a photo.
- A feature is a very large number of paid segments (up to 60 per episode or sequence), so plan the length and the budget together: Choosing script length and cost.
- Fine control of one exact camera path is limited to what the shot description can express; the storyboard is where you steer it.

In SceneMixer vs. stitching tools together
Most AI drama workflows are five or six tools in a row. This is where each step happens here, and what it replaces.
| Step | In SceneMixer | Doing it by hand with separate tools |
|---|---|---|
| Script and episode plan | Paste a script or a novel, or type one line: it is read into a cast, locations, props and an episode outline you can edit | A chat model writes the script; you split it into episodes and carry the text from tool to tool |
| Character faces and places | Every character, location and prop is drawn once as a reference sheet and attached to every shot it appears in | An image model, one sheet at a time; you upload the right reference to every clip yourself |
| Shots | A storyboard per episode with numbered shots and seconds; video is generated segment by segment in 9:16 or 16:9 against the same sheets | A video model, one clip per prompt, describing the same people again each time |
| Voices and dialogue | Lines are performed in the video itself, one voice per character, in any of 15 languages | A text-to-speech tool for each line, then a lip-sync pass on every clip |
| Fixing one shot | Edit that shot's text and regenerate the segment alone; the rest of the episode is untouched | Regenerate the clip, then re-cut the timeline |
| Finishing | Segments are composited into one episode file with its score; members download without the AI badge | A video editor to join the clips, add music and captions, then export |
| Publishing | You upload the finished episode to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or anywhere else; nothing is posted for you | Upload by hand, the same as here |
FAQ
What is AI film making?
Making a film with generative AI for the pictures and sound: you supply the script and the decisions, and each step (cast, sets, storyboard, shots, cut) is generated and editable.
Can I make a whole film with it?
Yes, as a set of sequences. The Film type has no hard length cap; each sequence is made and paid for separately, so you can build a long film one sequence at a time.
Do I need filmmaking experience?
No, but film vocabulary helps in the storyboard: framing, camera move, who is in the shot. The editor shows each shot as plain text you can rewrite.
How much does it cost?
Video is charged per finished second: 10 credits a second on the default tier (about $0.06 a second at the lowest credit price), plus 1 credit a second to join. Reading a script is 4 credits per 1,000 characters.
Is anything free?
New accounts start with 50 credits, the first 15 setup images are free, the first episode's storyboard on your first drama is free, and there is a free preview of about 5 seconds.
Can I use my own script?
Yes. Paste it or upload .txt, .docx or .md. A script of up to 300,000 characters of English is read in one project.
Does the film have dialogue?
Yes. Each character has a voice and speaks in the video itself, in any of 15 languages.
Can I use it for previs or a pitch?
Yes. A rough voiced version of a scene is a common use, and a pitch trailer is a short project of its own.
