Typical use: the right scene, the right performance, but the wrong face — for example two similar-looking characters got mixed up in one clip.
The replacement must be a character of this project with a character sheet, because the sheet is where the new face comes from. Swap with lists only characters that have one, and never the person you are replacing. If the project has fewer than two characters, or nobody has a sheet yet, Swap person is greyed out. To bring in someone new, add them to the asset library and generate or upload their sheet first. Add a character to this episode.
The performance carries over: the same movements, the same place in the frame, the same timing and the same lines. What changes is the person: face, hair and outfit follow the new character’s sheet — including the outfit, so if the sheet shows a coat, the coat comes along. If the voice should change as well, run Redub on the result and pick the new character’s voice. Change a character's voice.
The storyboard still names the original character, so if you regenerate the segment the original comes back. For a real recast — the part should be played by someone else from now on — change the character’s sheet instead and regenerate the segments, or edit the storyboard so the other character is named in those shots. Replacing a character sheet.
A swap replaces one person with another in the same place. It cannot take out an extra person who should not be in the shot, and it cannot fix a clip where the same character appears twice. Those come from the storyboard: check who the shot names and regenerate. Who is in frame.

Not directly. Copy the character into this project first so it has a sheet here, then swap. Reuse a character across projects.
The project needs at least two characters, and the one you swap in needs a character sheet.
Swap changes how the person looks. To change how they sound, redub the result.
No. One swap per edit; run another edit on the result for the second person.
Same performance, different character, the original kept in the history.
