Change a Character's Voice in a Clip You Already Have

Quick answer: Open Edit this clip → Redub. Each line has a voice pill; click it, listen to voices in the library, pick one, and press Redub into a new version without changing the words. The character’s other lines that used the same voice switch with it. With Lip sync it costs 1 credit per second of clip. The voice you pick is used for this clip; the character’s own voice setting does not change.

Click the play button beside a voice pill before you redub: it plays that voice's sample, so you hear it before paying for it.

Which voice each line starts with

If the character has a voice from the library assigned, that is the one on the pill. Most characters have only a written voice description and no assigned voice; for them, and for speakers who are not in the cast list, the site picks a default from the library that matches the gender, language and age of the character. It is only a starting point for this redub — if it does not sound right, change it.

Pick and listen

  1. Select the segment and open Edit this clip → Redub.
  2. Click the voice pill on one of the character’s lines. The library opens, grouped into male, female and other voices, with a search box; voices in the clip’s language are listed first, others carry a language tag.
  3. Press play on a few voices to hear them, then click the one you want.
  4. Back in the panel, every line of that character that used the same voice now shows the new one. Press the play button on a row to hear it again.
  5. Leave the words alone and press Redub into a new version.

Lines by the same speaker that share a voice always change together, so a character keeps one voice through the clip. Lines by different speakers are independent. Every line needs a voice before you can submit.

Only the voice, not the words

If you do not touch a line’s text, its words stay the same. Emptying a text box does not delete the line either — the original words come back when you click away — so changing voices never rewrites your storyboard. If you do edit words at the same time, those changes are written back into the storyboard. Change a line after the video is made.

Voices you uploaded yourself

Redub only offers the site’s voice library. A voice you uploaded for a character is used when segments are generated, but it cannot be used to voice a redub; that character starts with a library voice chosen by the rule above. If the uploaded voice matters, regenerate the segment instead. How character voices work.

For the whole series

A voice picked in Redub affects this clip only. To make a character sound different everywhere, change the voice on the character itself, then regenerate or redub the segments you want in the new voice. New segments generated after the change use the new voice.

FAQ

Why did two lines change when I picked one voice?

Lines by the same speaker that used the same voice change together, so one character does not end up with two voices in one clip.

Why is the voice pill orange?

That line has no voice yet. Pick one; every line needs a voice before you can redub.

Does this change the character's voice in other clips?

No. It changes this clip only.

Can I clone a real person's voice?

No. Redub uses the site's voice library.

Give the character the right voice

Listen, pick, redub, and keep the original clip in the history.
